Tips to Prevent Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

TeethingIn order for parents to keep their baby’s teeth clean and healthy, do not fill your baby’s bottle with drinks high in sugar like sodas or fruit juice. Bacteria in the child’s mouth can build up, causing an acid that acts on the teeth, and leads to what is known as “Baby Bottle Tooth Decay.” One major cause of dental caries (or tooth decay) in infants or babies is allowing your child to drink a sugary or fruity juice before naps. When a baby naps, the buildup of saliva decreases which allows sugar to sit on the teeth, causing tooth decay.

Why you should protect your child’s teeth so early?

While infants teeth are only temporary, they are very important to early development in infants. Infants teeth allow them to start talking, affect their smile, and the way your child chews his/her food. Never dip a small child’s pacifier in anything sweet, especially juice and sugar. It can hurt your child’s early teeth and cause problems in the future.

Easy Ways to Prevent Tooth Decay in Small Children Who Use Bottles

Schedule appointments or check-ups if you notice something wrong with your child’s teeth. When small children lose their teeth, you should floss in between the areas to remove sugar or build up. To keep the child’s bottle clean, add water and allow your child to drink small amounts of water from the baby bottle as often as you can. To numb the pain if your child experiences any irritation in chewing, simply massage their gums. It is important to protect the child’s teeth early on to prevent any serious damage. Teeth are very important to the early development of your child and should be protected or cleaned gently as often as possible.
