Isn’t it amazing how many dental products are available now? Years ago, we could only find toothbrushes and dental floss. Well, those days are gone. Now, we can buy manual toothbrushes, power toothbrushes, waxed dental floss, unwaxed dental floss, floss picks, small dental brushes, either straight or tapered, rinses of every flavor that are reported to cure every thing that could be wrong with your teeth.
It can be very confusing, so let’s break it down to a few simple basics.
1. Select a soft bristle brush, either manual or power. It’s really an individual choice.
2. Select any type of floss that works well for you. It can be kite string, shoe string or fishing line. The most important thing is that you use it on a regular basis. That translates to daily….. only if you want to avoid cavities or gum disease though.
3. Select a toothpaste that has fluoride in it. That is the most important factor in choosing a toothpaste. Tarter control products can be effective. Be aware that slight reactions can occur. Watch out for red or tender gums.
4. Most over-the-counter mouth rinses are fluff….the best ones are available by prescription only.
Find what works for you and stick with it on a daily basis.
Dr. Goad recommends brushing twice a day for two minutes and flossing once a day.
